For nearly 40 years she taught art in Washington, DC, public schools, all the while exploring Expressionist, Abstract, and nonobjective phases of art. Her mature style features bold, splashy paintings inspired by nature and the happenings of her day. She was particularly excited by space exploration of the 1960s, which led to the noteworthy \u003cem\u003eSpace\u003c\/em\u003e series in which her lifelong study of color theory sparkles. She was an artist of indomitable spirit. As a Black woman, she overcame hurdles related to race, gender, and age; she produced her most important works after age 70. Thomas is known as a major painter of the Washington Color Field School.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e","brand":"1000 Museums","offers":[{"title":"Default Title","offer_id":50211243360311,"sku":"MSP-1kM-71412post","price":48.0,"currency_code":"USD","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0098\/2813\/9063\/files\/AThomasSnoopyEarlySun71412-NF-LG.jpg?v=1789836465","url":"https:\/\/scmashop.smith.edu\/products\/alma-thomas-snoopy-early-sun-print","provider":"SCMA Shop","version":"1.0","type":"link"}
