Shona Carved Stone Stork

This Shona sculpture depicting a crane in repose. The lines and curves of the sculpture are fluid and delicate suggesting an elegant crane at peace. Stone is a serpentine in a deep mottled green, taupe, and brown hues. Each unique sculpture has variations to the stone from the image shown. Hand-carved in Zimbabwe.

Shona sculpture is the name given the  modern movement of  sculpture created in Zimbabwe. It gets its name from the ‘Shona’ tribe of people, which is primarily comprised of many similar tribes with closely related language and culture who are the largest in Zimbabwe.
