Mary Bauermeister: The New York Decade, SCMA Exhibit Catalogue

This catalog marks an exhibition at SCMA that was the first monographic exhibition of Mary Bauermeister’s work organized by an American museum. The exhibition was inspired by two works in SCMA’s collection: Eighteen Rows (1962-1968) and Joie et Nuit (1971-1972). The exhibition featured Bauermeister’s signature optical lens boxes, assemblages, stone reliefs, drawings and other works produced during a prolific period in her career from 1962-1972.

The catalog includes an introduction by Linda Muehlig, Curator of Painting and Sculpture and Associate Director for Curatorial Affairs at SCMA, and essays by scholars Kerstin Skrobanek and Liz Kotz and musicologist and musician Paul V. Miller. There are over 60 color plates and 17 black and white photographs.
