Touch Fire features brilliant contemporary Japanese ceramics by women artists. Since the history of independent women ceramic artists in Japan is a relatively brief one, few scholars have made it their particular field of study. This catalog features an essay on the history of women artists in Japanese ceramics by noted ceramics specialist Dr. Todate Kazuko, Chief Curator at the Tsukuba Art Museum.  The introduction is by Samuel C. Morse, the Museum’s Consulting Curator for Asian Art and Professor in the Departments of Art and the History of Art and Asian Languages and Civilizations at Amherst College.

The 110-page soft-cover catalogue features 20+ artists, each of whom has a page-long introduction with biography and artistic development, followed by multiple full-page or detailed inset color photographs of her work.  Work featured is from both museum and private collections.
